About

I created this blog in hopes to help people find the most effective tools and techniques available for learning Spanish. The information provided here comes primarily from my personal journey as an IT geek studying Spanish aggressively in my spare time over the past 4 years, during which time I've tried a wide variety of methods. I also hope that this site will become a place where visitors share advice with each other and with me. You won't learn the Spanish language on this site, but hopefully you'll find very valuable tips for doing so!

Why Geek Spanish?

Although I stick to discussing Spanish on this site, at least some of my opinions come from the perspective of an IT geek. Professionally, I am a software engineer. To maintain a successful career in Information Technology, you have to continuously learn new technologies. In my case, that sometimes includes learning new languages for developing software. This ongoing learning process frequently requires gathering information in different forms from many different sources, and then practicing what you've learned through hands-on experience. I've found that learning Spanish is quite similar. Furthermore, as a techie, I value the benefits of modern technology. A good deal of what I recommend reflects that. However, I never use technology for its own sake. Where more traditional practices make sense, I use them.
